Deborah
Hello everyone,
My name is Deborah, and I am a survivor of
this disease called breast cancer. I was diagnosed when
I was 33 years old. My children were 2 and 4 at the time. It
took us by surprise; no one in my family had breast cancer.
I started with 6 months of chemo followed by a mastectomy
of my right breast with all the lymph nodes taken as well.
Following this I had 6 weeks of radiation to seal up the area.
There were days that were just as normal as my old life. Then there
were the days that were so full of tears, pain, tiredness and just
plain confusion. But we endured the cancer as a family.
Our bonds
became stronger, our outlook on life became simpler, and our family
became a solid unit that nothing - especially cancer - was going to
break.
Overall I endured quite well. My children knew words that they would
not have learned for sometime, and my husband was my rock. I still
wake-up everyday and tell myself 'you have cancer, get on with your
day.'
No one can take that claim from me. I wear it proudly. I am not
afraid to talk about what we went through because it has made us
strong.
Stay positive always and keep the faith.
