Mary M. H. - IBC Survivor

twinkling star image

I was diagnosed on February 19, 1999 at the age of 65.

Mary

In February, 1999 I was diagnosed with IBC. I received 4 treatments of Adriamycin and Cytoxan. On July 7, 1999 my right breast was removed. Then I received 3 treatments of Taxol and then 33 Radiation treatments.

January, 2001 showed no signs of cancer. I still have regular check ups every 3 to 4 months.

Taxol left me with numbness in my hands and feet, called Peripheral Neuropathy. You feel like you are walking on bubble wrap. Only a few women get this reaction; but it is for the pits, so watch out.

I am now 66 and feeling great and looking forward to many more years cancer free.

Don't give up... there is hope, and THINK POSITIVE AT ALL TIMES.

I Am Woman

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend

'Cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong - strong
I am invincible - invincible
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal

And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong - strong
I am invincible - invincible
I am woman

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land

But I'm still an embryo
With a long, long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained

If I have to I can face anything
I am strong - strong
I am invincible - invincible
I am woman

Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now can see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my Fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

And when we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We'll have no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we first begun.
